Problem installing RAM

I just bought 2 2GB RAM cards to upgrade my laptop to 4GB. They are DDR2-800S PC6400 SO-DIMM. When I installed them the computer booted up and go to the gateway screen where I can enter the advanced boot an bios menu but then it goes to an all black screen with the dash cursor in the top left corner blinking and will not do anything from there. I know my laptop can go to 4GB because i could have done it when i got the computer. I would just like to know if i can get this to work and if not why i can't. I did notice when i went into the BIOS mnu it said I have 3GB RAM so it must be reading it somewhat. I put the 2 1GB sticks back in and its fine.

Model: E-155C Gateway Tablet
OS: Home Premium Vista Academic Upgrade
