1. The article [Q176497] explains that the very top title bar of the IE window consists of the page title and the window title specified by the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) <TITLE> tag on the current page. The default is Microsoft Internet Explorer but can be either customized by Internet Content Providers (ICPs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), corporate administrators by using Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK), or by the user who manually edits the system registry.
2. The article [Q176713] describes how to restore the animated Internet Explorer logo in the upper-right corner -- right side of the title bar, if it has been customized. In certain instances, as well as Microsoft Outlook Express.
3. Otherwise, try restoring IE to default. Close IE first. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt, type the following line as shown, and then press Enter. After typing this line and pressing Enter, type exit and press Enter to return to the Windows environment. Otherwise, on the "Run" line (click to see a screen shot), enter the statement as shown and then press Enter.
c:\windows\Rundll32.exe c:\windows\system\IedkCK32.dll,Clear
Note: iedkcs32.dll is the customization DLL file issued by Microsoft for just this purpose and resides in the system folder.
I went to the web address: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp it scans your system to see what updates may be required, the one that came up as a critical update was:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (Windows 98, Windows Me).
Which, by the way, has let me know for quite some time that I needed this update and I've had the same problem installing it each time.
It downloads quickly, but I run into the problem when it is installing. It reaches 87% at which point it says that's it's at the windows media player and installs no further then that. I've left it all night, thinking that when I returned to my computer, it would finally have finished installing, but it hasn't installed any further then the 87%. It does not give me an error message, other then when I try to cancel the update, it says that it may take quite sometime to uninstall the components that have installed and shutting down my computer at that time could damage my harddrive. There was no response to that function after many hours either, so, I did ctrl + alt + del, then end task to exit this portion.
Could someone please suggest help with this issue? I've gone to all the troubleshooting/faq's that I can find for IE, but haven't found one that relates to the problem I'm having.
Thanks - Pat
