problem in creating a live disc

the instructions given were download the.iso file and write it to a disc

i did this using linux and windows but could not boot it

then i even extracted the files and wrote them and tried to boot but could not boot the pc using linux live cd OS:mint

i had a live cd of a buddies that did boot , what could be the possible issue

Maybe the instructions aren't clear (we can't tell, because you didn't link to them). Maybe you did it wrong.

Download IMGBURN (free) and use that to burn the image to disk. The equivalent command in your current burning program (you didn't tell that either) should be OK, but it's wrong to burn it as a data file or as an video DVD. And with IMGBURN you can't do it wrong.

tried windows cd writer ,did try to write as a data disc using nero as well

Download the linux mint program using windows
Check the md5sum to assure you got a good download

Install cdburnerxp and burn to disc using iso program

This should give you a good live cd

Nero or Roxio just double click on the ISO file. If you are using K3B in linux is the same procedure.

The software takes care of the rest, is that easy.
