Problem getting Outlook to download emails ...

Sep 15, 2007 4:35AM PDT

Hi all. I'll start out with a pathetic pleading for HELP! My problem: I have Vista OS, and MSOffice/Outlook 2007. JUNO is my email program. I am not very successful in having a consistent auto-downloading of my Juno email into Outlook, and when it DOES
happen, it then seems to download over and over again and I end up with multiples of the same messages. (Currently I am never getting new messages downloaded into Outlook YET I AM able to SEND messages from Outlook...(?) I have checked my Outlook Mail settings and all 'seems' ok, but then I click Send/Receive and no new messages come into Outlook, even though there is email in my JUNO inbox.

What should the settings be so that 1) JUNO mail is auto-downloaded to Outlook Inbox...

and 2) so that I do not get multiple email messages of the same message.

I certainly hope I have explained the issue as it has me pulling out what little is left of my hair. Any and all help gratefully accepted. And I apologize for what is probably a VERY simplistic issue since I am overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge that MANY on this forum have that is WAY above my computer savvy. ha

Then, probably, ...

your settings aren't as correct as you think they are. As a work-around (and prove) set up Outlook Express to receive your Juno mail (according to the Juno-instructions). They aren't lost, because you can import mail from Outlook Express into Outlook to have them all on one place after this little experiment.

And be sure the 'leave messages on server' checkbox on the account settings is OFF. That way, you only receive each message once, because it's deleted after it's received.

Hope this helps.

MS Office Outlook email problem ...continued
Sep 15, 2007 6:03AM PDT

Thanks Kees....I was kidding about my settings being 'correct' (obviously they aren't or else the email thing would be working...ha). Unfortunately my MSOffice only includes Outlook and not Outlook Express. So I can't do the 'test' and would fear losing the email that I do have in Juno. I will again look at my Juno and Outlook settings to see if something pops out at me. The confusing thing is that when I installed MSOffice/Outlook it did all the conversions perfectly but has since stopped doing the email download and I have no idea why the change all of a sudden. Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

ReL: Outlook Express.

You're lucky: Outlook Express comes with Internet Explorer. And I'm sure you do have Internet Explorer. Or else it's a free download.

Any other mail client would work also, of course. But I don't know if Outlook can import from Mozilla's Thunderbird (or if Thunderbird can export to Outlook). That's why I advised the safe way (and that's wholly Microsoft for this plan).

Outlook Email problem
Sep 15, 2007 7:48AM PDT

Kees, you are getting to be my new best friend...ha. Actually, while I do have IE7 it has COMPLETELY stopped working and was thus the reason that I switched over to Mozilla....which it seems many people favor anyway. A buddy of mine also had IE stop working and the only way he could get it up and running again was to setup a completely new Administrator account on his computer and then, poof, IE worked again. I have not yet done that but have kept going with Mozilla. (That will probably be the NEXT issue I beg for help on..ha...but in the meantime will stick to this darn Outlook Email issue (unless you believe the IE problem should be dealt with as the primary problem?)

Checked for problems with Juno
Sep 15, 2007 9:37AM PDT

Well Kees, I checked my Juno Account info and it states that Juno Webmail works with IE and Netscape....no mention of Mozilla. So do you think I have to concentrate on fixing the IE issue first, since IE7 has mysteriously stopped working. And if that is the case, I had already tried uninstalling/reinstalling IE7 and still came up as not working. So now I may have to figure out a way to setup as a new Administrator on the Vista OS and see if IE resets whatever caused it to stop working in the first place....which does seem to be around the time that the Outlook stopped receiving my Juno email, since it would have been using the Mozilla rather than IE. Soooooo friggin' confusing. Any other ideas?

That's a whole new story.
Sep 15, 2007 7:38PM PDT

- You use a browser (like IE and Firefox) for a web-based mail server.
- You use a pop3- (or imap-) client (like Outlook and Outlook Express and Thunderbird) for a pop3 or imap based mail server.

Those are totally different protocols, totally different setup's and totally independent problems. That's to say: independent, unless:
- malware is interfering
- basic TCP/IP doesn't work
- firewall or other internet security software is interfering
And we don't know about that. The MS Office forum isn't right place for such either.

Luckily, must web-based mail services offer some way to link them to pop3-based clients. Like most ISP's that offer pop3-mail have a webmail-interface also. And then, it's practically always possible to access your mail one way or the other.

If a service works with Netscape, I'm rather sure it works with Firefox also. That's based on Netscape. Better contact Juno customer service to confirm that. But you can still download Netscape if that's necessary.

Hope this helps.

(NT) And how did you solve your problem?

Not solved
Sep 17, 2007 9:14AM PDT

Kees, thanks for the time you have taken, but the issue is still unresolved. As mentioned, another friend had the same problem with IE all of a sudden not working at all (error message upon trying to open) which he 'solved' only by setting up as a 'new administrator' on his XP system...and somehow the necessary settings resolved themselves and IE worked as normal. Not sure if there has been a virus/malware that has had that effect on IE...but I found it strange that he and I experienced the same IE shutdown. So, long answer to your short question...I am still not able to RECEIVE email into my Outlook program, but I CAN send email from Outlook...and I just really don't understand that aspect of it at all. As always, I appreciate any suggestions.

DEP?
Sep 17, 2007 11:51AM PDT

Kees, forgot to mention that the error message that I get when IE doesn't open is "Data Encryption Prevention has prevented IE from opening"....so of course I then turned OFF the DEP in the Advanced Settings menu, and thus the further confusion as to the continued DEP warning for IE. Just a little more info to make the issue even more confusing..ha.

Emails stopped downloading to Outlook
Nov 25, 2015 8:32AM PST

I have two Gmail accounts that have happily been downloading to my windows phone and my Outlook on my desktop. For some unknown reason, (nothing has changed been changed, added or taken away), only one of the accounts is still downloading to both phone and outlook. The other account is only downloading to my phone. I don't know why it stopped downloading my mail to Outlook. Please help!
