Feb 28, 2018 11:03AM PST

hi everyone, since a short time i set up my old pc again i use it to mess around with however now im faceing a problem i discoverd that my ps2 port is broken and i cant enter the bios settings without ps2, tried resetting the cmos battery without luck, back in the day i replaced my psu because it was broken due to a power outage (the usb ports only get active after windows is started) also tried a pci to ps2 card but this to only gets active after windows is started, is there any bios editor around i can use in windows to enable the use of usb to get to the bios?
the motherboard type is a msi neo p43

thanks in advance Happy

Clarification Request
try this

The PS/2 part on motherboard may have loose solder holding it, so not making contact. Try pulling the cord plugged to it one way, such as up from motherboard while turning on computer and maybe you can get the access that way. If not, try pushing it against the motherboard and get access to enter the BIOS. You could also pull the motherboard and resolder the PS/2 port and it may work.

Are You Sure It's The Motherboard's PS2 Port?
Feb 28, 2018 11:24AM PST

The problem may actually lie with the keyboard's cabling and connection. Have you tried a different PS2 keyboard?

Remember also, if you have been using a USB keyboard/mouse previously, you may need to perform a restart a couple of times before the PS2 keyboard is recognized.

Hope this helps.

Answer
do you have a true PS2 keyboard available?
Feb 28, 2018 12:02PM PST

sometimes people are using an USB keyboard through an adapter, and those don't always register as a full PS2 motherboard. Do you have more than one PS2 port? If so, have you tried the PS2 keyboard (no matter the color of PS2) in both of them?

Here's the latest BIOS, it's from 8 years ago.

Also, if your entry function key is F2 or some other and you have an FN key also on the keyboard, hold the FN key down when hitting the F2 or function key. Also try the DEL key instead of the function key, sometimes that works instead with a USB keyboard.

some in other forums claim MSI may leave on USB key active during BIOS POST while others only come active AFTER bootup. So, try that USB keyboard in each USB port.

MSI has a program

as I recall when reading their site which allows upgrading the BIOS while in windows. You might check on that. There's no guarantee that will activate access of BIOS in future with USB keyboard.
