problem devices (pci device)

Nov 17, 2009 11:29PM PST

I have noticed there was a problem device in my computer management many years ago, I then went to device manager and noticed under other devices I have a yellow ? Then inside the tree there is an yellow ! next to pci device and an unknown device. So next to tried many times to install/uninstall/reinstall/etc new drivers. Nothing, it just said, "no driver found" , so since my computer was working ok I just gave up.
Now many years later I want to try and install a graphics/video card so I can watch files/streams/files/etc on my television. I then buy a pci nvidia geforce fx 5200 card and proceed to install card into white pci slot which is on a riser board which is then connected to the motherboard.Nothing!! After many days waiting for support and researching nvidia forums, AS well as going to dell and searching my service tag and following directions I still have no fix.
So I am wondering if I need a special driver for the riser board itself? do I need to replace pci slot where riser connects to motherboard? is my board broke/cracked? I am all out of ideas. so here are some general info and specs or screenshots to help idenify my problem. thanks in advance.

current graphics card: Intel(r) 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics controller
( I do believe this is an onboard) I was going to try and disable it temporarily but could not, option in properties to disable not available. only uninstall. I also read in some forums to change some bios. but my bios did not match to suggested. Also I am having keyboard failure! I can temp fix by unplugging cp and draining power, then restart.

Let's say you didn't see that report. Humor me here. What is not working? Or is this just something that bugs you in that device manager?

I am trying to install graphics card, and hardware wizard wont even detect the new hardware. So being that I plug card into a pci slot on the pci bus , I am thinking thats where the problem is.

That helps.

What I would research and install is the MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET DRIVER PACKAGE.

There is that CRACKED XP OS I ran into last month. Shameful thing disabled too much in the OS like PNP service and more. Fix? Use the real OS from MSFT.

Also, NEVER give that wizard any more than one try. Then go follow the directions from the card's maker for installing.

If this is the correct chipset? should I update drivers? and if so, where? Would Intel be the best place to do this. Here are is the only chipset info I am aware of for now. Because it shows up in cpuz, does this mean the drivers are installed or just showing required drivers.(I will continue to search) I used CPU-Z, so here it is:

I also forgot to mention, I have already returned the graphics card, due to very bad support. Over a week and no phone call response!Thier forum was of no help either. However I will be getting another card.

But for now, it is just a personal WAR!

Could cost more than the card.

I see vendors do not give good support for free. The cost to correct this is very high since it's Windows 2000 and a dated machine. I see people drop 200 plus over this one.

os issue
Nov 19, 2009 1:40AM PST

I am thinking you are right on hit about needing an upgrade or at the least an new os. I tried to install the infinst911_aotu.exe and it stopped installing once difxapi.dll was highlighted and then message box said, " computer does not meet minumum requirements.(win 2000 64kb system memory) MET

Until I have enough money fo upgrade I will continue to research possible fix such as, find and download missing difxapi.dll (_library link)

I have also just started getting message from microsoft udates that nt framework servicepack 1 or 2 ? would not install.

Thanks for all your help.

I thought that was 64 megabytes?

It's hard to find less than that today. Even on FREECYCLE (see google) I've seen free pentium 4 machines with 256MB.
