Problem deleting songs from iPod Touch 8GB

Oct 7, 2010 2:04AM PDT

I want to delete songs from my 8GB previous-generation iPod Touch, running iOS 4.1. When I connect to my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard the song lists on the iPod are greyed out and I can't select to delete.
I tried to synch from mi MacBook Pro's iTunes library to remove what was on the Touch and replace with what I had selected, as per the warning window on iTunes, and instead synched the same song list twice to the Touch.\I want to wipe the Touch songs clean and re-load from the laptop's iTunes library.
Any suggestions ill be most appreciated.
Thanks!

You are doing it the right way,

but try this:
Create an empty play list.
With the iPod connected, select it in the left sidebar and configure the preferences to Manage music manually.
Under the music tab, select Sync only selected playlists.
Choose the empty playlist
Hit the sync button.

Did it all go away?
If so, change the music preferences to sync the playlists that you really want on the iPod.

Close, but no cigar

I did as you suggested.
The redundant music from the MacBook Pro was deleted, but all music that I purchased directly to the Touch was retained.
Again with the greyed areas when I try to select/delete/add music from the laptop.
Any further suggestions are most appreciated.
Thanks!

Touch Delete woes, cont'd.

No.I purchased an album and a song directly to the Touch.
There were retained.
I would like to lose them both, and re-load items from the Mac.
Your method got rid of the redundant album from the Mac to the Touch (I purchased the same album twice).
Thanks in advance.
We'll get there.
