Question

Problem connecting laptop to SRS-BTM8 speaker via USB-BT400

Apr 1, 2015 11:56PM PDT

I have an Asus X55C laptop with no support for Bluetooth. By wife bought a Sony SRS-BTM8 speaker so I bought a USB-BT400 bluetooth dongle in order to be able to play music through the speaker from my laptop.

My problem is my Laptop won't recognise the speaker. My phone can see the laptop and vice versa, the phone can see the speaker, but the laptop cannot see the speaker.

I have spoken to support for both the dongle and speaker and both saying no reason is should not work and must be the other guys fault.

Specs:
http://www.asus.com/uk/Networking/USBBT400/specificatio...
http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/wireless-speakers/srs...

Could it be that the speaker supports bluetooth 3 and the and the dongle bluetooth 2. This is unlikely according to what I have read but what else could it be?

Oh sorry, I seem to have posted this in the wrong forum.

Can somebody please move this to the appropriate forum, peripherals I guess is the logical place. Thanks.

The peripherals forum has less traffic than here. CNET's Computer Help has more traffic than here (see number of posts, etc.)

Pairing is somewhat iffy so when we pair it's within a few feet. A real problem is that the exact steps, getting the device into pairing mode can be troublesome. Also, your links look mangled.

It looks like you have all the right parts but no word about distances.
Maybe it's that?
Also, try resetting the speaker's BT and don't have it paired to anything before you try pairing.

Thanks the reply. I have been playing with it for an hour and got it working, not sure what I did differently but no doubt your advice helped = )
