Problem Capturing from VCR with Sony HandyCam

Jul 19, 2006 1:55AM PDT

I'm using a Sony HandyCam DCR-HC40 and trying to record video from a tape onto it, connecting the camcorder to a VCR using an AV cable as stated in the manual. I've followed all instructions but whenever I try to capture the video it does not appear on the LCD as stated in the manual, and when I go back to review it only a continuous gray screen appears. I've checked all connections and they are all working so that is not the problem. I really need to use this feature but Sony Support has not been able to help, so I need outside advice. Any ideas anyone?

You have change the function of the A/V port from play to record. The default is play! Carfully go through all of the settings in the setup screens. John
