The 'playing up' could have been caused by malware that influenced all users of Windows, not only the current user.
If you happen to have another old (original, unchanged) user on the machine (the original administrator account, for example, or the guest account) you could see if the same problems occurs there. It comes in handy to have such.
And you can make another new user, without copying any old stuff to begin with. Then see if that, freshly created, works as you want.
Hope this helps.

MY pc played up a week or so ago and the user I had set up wasnt working properly. I set up a new user, copied all my stuff onto that users folders etc and deleted the old user. (hope this makes some sense)
anyway, ever since the internet has been acting strangely, hotmail often wont load, and it seems generally slower. The other big thing is that when I use a forum that I use often, and have done for some time without problem, pictures will not load (especially smileys etc) and the actual layout of the forum is sometimes not right (ie a very small column on the right hand side will take up half of the screen)
does anyone know what might be going on?
Thanks in advance, Rob.
