I found it interesting that, when both parents participate in the rearing, the survival rate to adulthood is greater. Much lower rates are achieved among the indiscriminate breeders. Could there be a message to which we should be paying attention? ![]()
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 6They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
of the Holy Scriptures. The notorious "Jehovah's Witness Bible". The one that we wrote so we could prove our weird religion. (Just ask James.)

"But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away. From among these arise men who slyly work their way into households and captivate weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth."
Hmmm. Looks about the same, except that your "without love" is our "having no natural affection". I'll stick with ours, because of the differences in the four Greek words for "love". (Steven and I discussed this elsewhere.)
V. 1 in ours is also more detailed; "critical times etc", again because of the Greek. We remind ourselves that the times are "hard to deal with", not "impossible..." Therefore we stick to Jehovah's guidance and gain confidence in the outcome; he's the real author of the passage. Does that sound like good advice?
The same in both:
-The time frame Paul specified in v.1. Why, when the world has always had these things?
-v. 5a. The warning to avoid such ones. Why? Can't they be preached to? Shouldn't they be preached to?
-v. 5b. Does this mean we could get fooled by such ones? But we're such nice people, and so educated!
-v. 7. Can that be? Haven't great scholars spent lifetimes studying the Bible? And they all came to the same conclusions about it, didn't they?
Does your NIV have footnotes? Some do, some do not. If so, see Mt 23:15, then read the footnote, then compare with our note. http://www.jw.org/en/publications/bible/nwt/books/matthew/23/
Just one reason why I prefer the NWT.
which is in the garage because it was overheating this afternoon.
Wonder if it was caused by the Bible. Probably not, the vapor was coming out of the hood.
One would expect this could be antifreeze but the odor should tell you. Some say it smells like roasting walnuts. I've never roasted them but the odor is fairly unique and the causes of leaks are many. Wintertime offers problems for old hoses and clamps that can shrink and expand causing seepage at connections. If these spray onto a hot engine, it will burn off causing vapor and odor. The radiator can also spring leaks and the same can happen. Water that's not moving because of clogs or a bad water pump can cause the pressure to go up. Generally, it will vent through the radiator cap but should go into an overflow tank. In any case, you don't want to let this go on or you may find yourself alongside the highway with hood up staring at the engine. That's what guys do...open the hood and just look inside. They've got no idea why.
If this happens to you, your Bible may come in handy. Just stand by the car waving it in your hand hoping that a Christian soul will stop and help. ![]()
and damaged the radiator and it was empty.
Bill, that is the Bible I keep in the car for church. It was the Bible I bought my mother.

Apparently they've been nesting there for about 10 years. Must be tough old birds.
