Printing problems using Word for Mac 2011

Jan 17, 2011 4:43AM PST

Just installed Office for Mac 2011 yesterday to help solve compatibility issues, but found it crashes every time I try to print or save a PDF version of my work. It's running on a Macbook pro under OSX 10.6.5, and printing to a Canon MP 150 connected to my G5 running under OSX 10.4.11. Pages prints just fine from the Macbook using the remote connection, so what the....????. Saw a post that talked about font weeding, which I then checked out, & found & deleted some duplicate fonts, but it didnt help. Advice, suggestions etc are VERY welcome!!

Cheers,
John

I'd report the bug.

The save to PDF concerns me since that's almost all done with the MacOSX and not word.

My only thought is to remove the printer and concentrate on what should be a MSFT only issue which is the PDF portion.

But I read discussions like http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2701335&tstart=30 and find folk having trouble printing from Word 2011 to a Canon printer!

WHAT'S REALLY INTERESTING is that OSX 10.6.5 is under discussion.

word 2011 for mac - a costly mistake!
Apr 1, 2011 9:49AM PDT

just installed this software, finished a grant proposal and sent it off- but the program deleted the last 5 pages. can open it gain with apple pages, but the formatting is messed up. tried to get MS help - they want $49. So I guess it is back to apple pages, which is more reliable then save as a word document at the end. Several hours of work down the drain and a missed deadline. What can you say about a company like this - other than i will never ever use their software whenever it can be avoided. unfortunately they essentially have a monopoly, which i guess is why they can act like this.

about PDF: this is an OS built-in feature. Hope you just hit Print in the menu (make sure it is Print..., not just Print that sends the command directly to the printer and the print dialog box may not open). Then "save as PDF".
Concerning the printing problem itself, I had trouble with Apple-installed drivers. However, Gutenprint drivers are excellent. You can download them from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php#5.2.6
