Printing Malfunction

by morph / September 18, 2008 7:23 AM PDT

Running: XP Pro SP2, HP Photosmart C4250 All-in-One
Trying to help a friend who has the following problem. When trying to print only the highlighted section of a document or even one page of a multipage document by going to File > Print, I find the Selection and Pages options shadowed out (not functioning). How can I get those options to function? Is this an XP issue or an HP issue?
Many thanks

On all programs?

Or only on certain ones?

Try Notepad, Wordpad, MS Word, OO Writer, Internet Explorer, Firefox (as far as they are installed, of course).
Printing a selection or a page can't be done using only the OS you quoted.

Did you already try to remove the printer and reinstall the driver (both from Start>Printers). First try the original driver (that came with the printer), then the latest one from HP. Might help.

If still not solved, take the printer and the driver CD to your home and try it there.

Notepad . . . WordPad

Thanks Kees, great suggestions. This happened using Notepad. Couldn't try WordPad, because I couldn't find WordPad in Start > Programs > Accessories. Do you have any idea why WordPad might be missing from my friend's computer?
