Printing directly on DVDs?

Nov 2, 2005 2:15AM PST

Just bought a 100 pack of DVDs that are inkjet printable even though don't have a way to print on them assuming could find a printer that would do it and am in the market for a new printer anyways. Does anyone have such a printer that they would recommend?

Thanks

Printing directly on DVDs?

In N America the only option at this time (I believe) is the Epson R200/R300. I have the R200 and it works perfectly. Very simple to use and good software. In Europe there is also a Canon that prints to dvd.

Check it out on the Epson web site or your local electronic store.

SunderlandFan,

My, that was fast! Just checked the Epson website and think the R200 will do nicely. And my local wholesale club has them in stock. Unless someone chimes in with a negative review will run to town and buy one tomorrow. (and a rebate too!)

Thanks very much!

Caution to anyone that also buys it... does not come with a printer to computer cable. Had to buy an USB 2 cable. $5.36 for 6.5 foot cable with included cable adapter if ever need to couple two cables together. Not bad!

Now to find a place that discounts all those seperate color cartridges that this particular printer requires.

Thanks again!

Hope you like it as much as I do.

I get my ink from www.blankmedia.ca however this is a Canadian site. I think there is a similar US site. Staples is also a good place. FYI - I printed about 105 disks before the colours started to run out. I use this printer for nothing else.

SF,

I can get all 6 cartridges for about $76 USD total (before tax) locally. Does this ink store well? Not sure if should buy ahead of time needed or not.

Thanks for the info.

Wow, that's cheap! I paid $85Cdn for a complete set, colour and b&w. Was that for genuine Epson ink? With respect to storage I always buy when needed.

SF,

Do you leave your printer on 24/7? Probably not. Only asking because I recently read (someplace) that it might be better to keep the cartridges charged. Supposedly the ink evaporates faster if printer is off.

Interesting, never heard of that before and no, I do not leave it on 24/7. I was happy with the amount of disks it printed as these were all full scans of dvds so there was lots of colour. This was over a period of 10 months.

Did you think that number was low?

My Epson 2200 caps the cartridges when it is turned off.
Nov 10, 2005 4:07PM PST

This prevents evaporation, and is better than leaving it on all the time. However, be sure that the printer is turned off with its own power switch. If you simply cut power with something like a switch on the outlet, the capping cycle will not be performed.

I wonder if the R200 does? How could I tell? Sure wish I could remember what user forum I read the "don't turn off" suggestion on. I went though my entire history file for Wed and couldn't find the post. Oh well....

Anyways, I was wondering why I should ever buy new cartridges for my R200. Price was $72.68 with a $20 rebate. Even without the rebate why not just continue to buy new printers?

Throw away printers! Who woulda thunk?

That's a really good price. Here in Canada they are $99Cdn after the mail in rebate.
I would agree that at that price buy a printer instead of ink.

R800 vs R220 for DVD printing
Mar 18, 2006 11:00PM PST

Was wondering if the it's worth getting the R800 vs. the R220 for DVD printing. The ink is better and doesn't smear as much with the R800?
