Printing Black and White Photos

Mar 18, 2011 1:59PM PDT

Hi --

I'm looking for guidance on how best to print back and white photos from my MacBook - Tiger; on an HP C3280. The "Help" available with the software is not good and am looking for articles, other sources, etc.

Thanks --

It's an original back and white - it's also a professional's photo taken in 1958,if that means anything.

This may be a silly question, but,

why not just hit the print button when you have the picture selected?

iPhoto will send the information to the printer, and the printer will print it.

Depending on the results, you may have to tweak the printer to produce a better quality picture. Those options, usually, part of the print dialogue.

Silly Question (!)

Not at all silly - I did just that in iPhoto but what I got was incomplete. The original photo is 8x10 and includes all kinds of details on the sides which I wanted to capture. When I hit Print, though, the image changed - got a little cropped on all 4 sides so I lost the detail I wanted when it actually printed.

Ahh, OK

Two possible issues here.

1. Your printer is not capable of printing 8 X 10 completely and causes iPhoto to crop the image to fit
or
2. You have a setting in iPhoto, somewhere in the printer dialog that is causing some of the image to be cropped.

I would lean toward the printer to begin with.
You may need to experiment with its settings to find out exactly what the maximum size of the print area is.

Is there any border around the picture when you print it or is it edge to edge?

Yes, there s a border but I had changed the layout to get what I wanted - and did get most - and didn't think of the border. One thing that threw me was what I saw displayed to print wasn't printed and I assumed that was iPhoto. Will do more checking - Thanks so much ---

Sorry - I thought I had closed this out. Fact is that it is a matter of tweeking both printer and iPhoto options. All the replies above, taken together were helpful --
