Printers Keep Going Offline After Printing

by ragtag / April 17, 2011 10:40 AM PDT

The hardware and setup: MacbookPro & MacBook Air, both running OS X 10.6.7 Two Printers: Lexmark Internet S605, HP Photosmart C5180 Belkin Wireless N+ router. (this recently replaced a Linksys Wireless Router) The Lexmark is a wireless printer, the HP is connected via ethernet to the router. Both computers are using wifi to router. The problem: Recently (it seems) I keep getting a "printer offline" message in the print queue when trying to print. Most often after sucessfully printing a job or two. If I reboot the computer it seems to reset the HP, but not always the Lexmark. What I've tried: I
have deleted, reinstalled, rebooted 'till I'm blue in the face. Looking
at the Update history on my Mac, I see that there was an update to
10.6.7 on March 23, and a "supplemental update" for the 13" Air on the
April 6. This problem seems to have gotten worse only in the last week
or so. I switched out the Linksys with the Belkin about two weeks ago,
so there may be something there, too. (I have not yet tried bypassing
the router, but I'll give that a shot when I get the chance.) Any
tips on how to get a printer back online? I've already tried opening up
queues in System Preferences and looking for "resume" but only "pause"
is available. Please, anybody have any ideas? Thanks,Jack

It could be a driver problem
by macnerd10 / April 18, 2011 6:10 AM PDT

I have successfully used Gutenprint drivers instead of Mac OS X supplied ones. They seem to be more reliable - worth a try. They can be downloaded for free from <span id="INSERTION_MARKER"> <span id="INSERTION_MARKER"> <span id="INSERTION_MARKER">

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
