Printer YES; Printer NO

With XP Pro, USB connection to printer: HP Photosmart All-in-One printed OK for four years, then had to replace it. New HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One prints some things OK. BUT docs which printed on previous printer don't print now. No other change in my hardware setup, just printer. Pop-up window says printer not enabled, and in my Doc program Printer window says HP printer is on Port Ne01 (which doesn't exist -- I have LPT1-3: Printer ports; Com 1-4: Serial Ports; File: Print to File; XPS Port: Local Port for MS XPS Doc Writer; and the USB001: Virtual Printer Port to HP Deskjet 3050).

HP gave me an unprofessional run-around, basically (Duh -- don't know nuthin'). Their suggestions impossible to complete, and my follow-up questions ignored.

Any practical suggestions much appreciated.

Let's try...

Goto the printers area and delete all you find, that are HP series. Unplug the USB cable and reboot. Allow it to boot-up completely with no printer attached. Once done, shutdown and follow the install instructions for your new printers. You maqy need to connect before/after so beware of that action. Proceed to complete the install as required and hopefully you clear-up the issue. if not, then return to HP support website and get the latest install pgm. for that model# and d/l it. repeat the previous steps.

What may have happened, if you didn't un-install the old printer it may haunt the new one as USB can be hosed for whatever reason. When I say, for whatever reason that means for unknown causes, but hopefully we sidestep this with a new install.

Printer NOT

Willy:

Thanks ever so. HOWEVER, in one of my many, many tries to fix this selective "UNABLE to PRINT" problem, I had completely uninstalled all HP files and references from my hard drive, and did a new install (actually 2x -- before and after the thorough uninstall).

Did I make it clear (?) that the Deskjet prints from Wordpad and other apps, it is just my old word processing docs which are not spooled to printer. They DID print on the defunct Photosmart.

It seems obvious that it's my old program and its relationship to the new printer which is faulty. Docs from MS Works 9 (which does not suit my purposes) print, but am still looking to keep all my old programs usable.

(sigh, sigh) Thanks again.
