printer woes

Aug 20, 2006 4:42PM PDT

I just recently got a Mac for the first time. I tried adding a printer from the Windows network at home (connected to my brother's pc) when it asks for type of printer i use "generic" since the Lexmark x5250 wasn't on the list of available printers to add.

My problem is, it sends, as it does that "printing started" voice from the pc, but then on the macbook it quickly goes to no print jobs (the bar on the pc is saying 100% and printing complete) but nothing comes out of the printer

Help is appreciated, school is starting soon, gonna need to print.

Additional info: 13'' macbook trying to connect to Lexmark x5250 connected to a pc, which is shared (other additional pc's could print from it)

similar issue, possible solution

If you have a Firewall on the Windows PC it may be blocking access through the port your Mac is attempting to connect through.

That was my experience,

no luck....

I turned the firewall off on the windows pc and then attempted to use all the gimpprint drivers (there wasn't the specific drivers for the x5250) for lexmark (4 of 5 which worked) instead of "generic" and it did feed paper, but pauses in the middle doesn't "add" any ink on paper and feeds the rest of the way.

Thanks for the firewall advice though.

so you don't have the right driver?

The Mac has a rather huge Printer driver folder, is the x5250's driver in there? I believe the way it is setup it's required on the Mac... meh, I'm not sure. I know my MacBook Pro still won't print through the Dell to the Photo Printer 720 (rebadged Lexmark) and so I'm getting a cheap second printer.

Udayan.

Macbook printing to an HP CM1015 USB wired to an HP Pavilion
Apr 29, 2008 9:52AM PDT

I am trying to print to an HP CM1015 from a new Macbook. The printer is attached via USB to an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista. The Mac wireless through a Linksys router. Everything gets to the internet just fine.

The Vista sees the Mac. I typed in the IP address into the Mac. First error is invalid IP address. I checked twice and the address is the same as the one listed on the Vista box and the printer test page. When I attempt to print a test document the Mac thinks the printer is paused. It is paused forever.

Can anyone help. Thanks in advance
