Answer
Printer

Does it give you any error messages? Did you first uninstall the software prior to reinstalling and did you use the load disk that came with the printer or did you download drivers from HP website? A little more info might help.

Sorry for skimpy info,,,,,,,,no errors of anykind.I did download from HP site tho it was a Deskjet D1500 series and not a specific Deskjet D1520.

The latest attempt
Aug 22, 2012 2:57AM PDT

I noticed that there was a document in the que that I could not delete.

I did a delete all but the very first entry would not delete.I went into Administrative Tools>services>print spooler and clicked on stop the printer spooler then went back and was able to delete that document in the queue.I then attempted to restart the print spooler back at the sevices tab and it trys but bombs out in about 5 seconds,,,,,,,,any thoughts??

Printer issue

Well my gut feeling is that is a print spooler issue, there are fixes for certain of these. Google hp print spooler fixes and take a look at the listings, there is very likely a patch you can download to try to resolve these types of errors. I have run into this a couple of times over the years and as I recall it is a fairly easy fix, if this is a spooling problem and it sounds as if it might be.

Well are you ready for this?????

It's working fine,,,,,,,,,it turns out that if you don't connect the USB cable at the right sequence point in time of the install things don't work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,kinda embarassing
