Question

Printer stopped printing

Apr 2, 2012 2:33AM PDT

Hi

New Samsung ML-1865 mono laser printer; out of the box, installed the DVD and worked fine - for about 6 documents then seized - Printer Status said loading 99%.

Uninstalled and reinstalled DVD and again worked fine - for about 6 documents then seized - Printer Status said loading 96%.

Phoned Samsung, downloaded latest driver, worked for 2 documents then seized - Printer Status said loading 94%.

Took back to dealer who printed no problem. Bought new USB lead, no different

Having lost sound and dvd writing capability on laptop - Windows XP Media Center, AMD Sempron 3000+, 1024 MB RAM, Word 97 - yesterday did a complete system restore but now Printer Status is down to saying loading 92%.

Have I picked up some sort of virus? Or is there something I can do, please?

Answer
This happened to me years ago.

It was not this printer and all I can share is my workaround. I used Adobe Distiller back then but today would use DoPDF (see google) to print that 6th doc to a PDF then print the PDF.

It's pretty clear the PC is somehow a factor but the make, model and all the details are not here so I'll share my workaround and move on.

Thanks, Bob, for getting back.

The laptop is an Advent 7105 but when you say 'It's pretty clear the PC is somehow a factor' guess you've said it all and although it's generally working fine it looks like it's for the chop!

Thanks again for responding - much appreciated!

Why I think that.

"dealer who printed no problem" was the clue here. I can't see anything in these posts that would have me write to check this or that. We know that printing depends on both the video and the printer driver.

And that most Windows users don't want to know that these 2 drivers are involved. The Advent is not a model I see in the USA but it does come up on discussion boards so my thought is to try other versions of the video driver.

Remember I'm working with only the details given and not anything else such as the 200 megabytes free on the drive.
