Printer slow down and problems

Hello, I have an Epson CX5400 All in One printer connected when I bought the system 3 months ago. It has always run perfectly. I connected my older Epson Stylus Color 440 to the system to help print a lot of the draft work. I also had several ink cartridges! The 440 operated very well too but the status monitor on it didn't work. What I immediately noticed was a slow down in the CX5400 print request time and I lost the status monitor 3 function. It provided the ink levels and print status. I removed the Color 440 and its software and the CX5400 still works poorly. I've tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling it. I've turned off firewalls, anti virus during the downloads and it didn't make a difference. I have spoken to Epson and Dell and nobody has a solution. Epson said to reinstall the OS. I'm not sure that I want to do that yet. I've tried troubleshooting using the System Config. Utility and nothing presented itself as the culprit. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find this troublemaker? I'd appreciate the help!

Thanks, Tig
