Printer Problem

by Shepbob / September 6, 2010 8:36 AM PDT

Pc is a Dell 2400 Windows XP Home SVC Pk 3
My friend purchased a Lex-mark Z-1300 printer about 6 months ago. It has been working fine. All of a sudden a voice message from the software says"Trouble communicating with the printer".
I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled. No help. I downloaded the latest from Lex-mark. Unanstalled the old drivers and installed the new ones. No help. I changed the USB cable. No change. I installed the printer on two different computers that I have and the printer works fine. I might also say. When I first plug in the usb cable before installations I get the new hardware pop up. I close it out then install from the disk. After the installation if I unplug the USB I get the disconnect sound. If I plug it back in I get the connect sound. Driving me crazy. Any suggestions.

2 tricks-

1) Use a restore point, prior to the date this problem arose.

2) Do an OS refresh, reload/repair the OS, without deleting or removing the old one. Google for instruction on your version of windoze OS for such.

Do any of this if no problem ever was present and this issue arose. Do a system back-up for safety. Ypu can visit the Dell forum at Dell support website and see what others may have posted. I also recommend, open case and reseat the USB cable(if applicable) and try again.

I did a system restore. Also there is a USB scanner installed that is working. I also tried a thumb drive in each of the USB slots and they all worked. I will try the Op refresh.
