You need to remove inkcart and clean the contacts and reseat the inkcart. If you do alot of color output expect color output to place a drain on ink sources. Even though there are 4-colors tops, they are mixed to produce the desired color output. Plus, color inks generally are lower ink levels than black. Your best bet is to replace the inkcart with new one and try again. You also do a color test using the prtr. own test pattern. Last, most HP inks are "dated" if more than a yr. old, maybe too old, though most can be relied on for 18mos.. If you can't recover after placing new inkcart, think new printer look for those that use the same inkcarts(?).

I have an HP deskjet 3820 and its been working fine til recently. Everything i try to print comes out in black and magenta. the strange thing is that when im using Word, and i type out a paper, it prints out in normal black. but when i turn the text into a picture file (still black and white text), and insert it as a picture to print in Word, it comes out black AND magenta. i know it cant be lack of ink because the cartridges are new.
