Question

Printer Password

May 15, 2019 11:53AM PDT

I just noticed that my printer is listed as an open connection in my list of wireless networks. Under printer properties and the security tab, it lists permissions for people to print, etc. I live in an apartment building, so is it possible for others to access my computer from my wireless printer connection? If so, how do I secure my connection?

I also found "Account unknown (S-1-15-3....)" under the printer security tab and deleted it. Should I be concerned?

Thanks.

Rob

Can't be specific.

The make and model of the printer is unknown so I can't check if it has a setting or password option. Check that manual now.

Can't get past insecure connection
May 15, 2019 3:00PM PDT

My printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610.

I enter the IP Address and then go to password settings. But, I can't continue because it says it is an insecure site. I select, "I understand the risks and wish to continue." But it doesn't work.

I don't care if people can access my printer itself, as the people in the apartments here have no reason to do so. But, I am concerned about the fact that they might be able to get into my computer. When I use my laptop to go onto the printer's connection, it wasn't connected to the internet. So, I assume I am safe. But I want to make sure.

Thanks.
