Printer networking across xp vista

by mtstern / October 26, 2008 1:58 AM PDT

I have a home network formerly all xp machines with no issues.

I have introduced a new Vista 64 machine at the hub of my network and am having difficulty getting the wireless laptop to print to a printer that is connected to the vista box through a USB port.

Everything works fine from the vista box.

I have two printers connected to the vista box and was able to install an HP photo printer without issue and share it. The Brother HL-1440 is the demond I am trying to resolve. I have installed the vista driver on the vista box and set the maching for sharing. I have tried to network install and local install the Brother onto the XP laptopwith no success. I have downloaded the newest xp drivers onto the laptop and tried configuring a new port on the laptop as well. I have even uninstalled everything from both machines and deleted the new port and tried to do it all over three times.

When I install as a network printer I get an unable to connect offline error.

When I install it as a local printer and then configure a port it seems to intall and even print a test page but then when I try to print from word or any othe program it just gives me a print error.

I have uninstalled it all again

HELP !!!!!!

Still troublesome

It is really strange I can install the driver and print a test page on the install, than when I try to send anything to the printer it errors.

Make it a warranty issue or another product not ready for the market.

The issue is Vista 64.

While you can fight it, the issue remains the same. Support is failing all over. I take it you know about accounts, shares, drivers and the link I shared showed ANOTHER way but I am never quite sure if people actually do this or they are trying it without change.

We also have NETWORK MAGIC at which relives those that don't want to learn all about Microsoft networking, accounts, shares, permissions or that workaround noted above.

Just check and see if it works with Vista 64.
