Printer Installation Problems in Vista 32 bit

Feb 8, 2008 6:12AM PST

Hi there

I am having nothing but trouble trying to install my Epson Stylus Photo R265 printer on my new Vista machine (32bit). It worked with no problems at all on my old XP machine, but Vista is just not having it!

I've tried downloading the Vista driver files from Epson, using the installation disc that came with the printer and Windows' Plug N Play won't install it either.

Using the PnP, I keep getting an error message reading:

'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered a problem trying to install it.

EPSON USB Printer.

The required section was not found in the INF'

I read around on the internet and have a very vague idea of what is happening, but have had no luck in finding a solution.

I've been able to install my other devices (mobile phone, digital camera and iPod) with no problems, so how come I can't do the same with my printer!

Any help would be gratefully received!

Cheers, Dan.

No R265? reply

Hi Bob, thanks for repsonding.

I downloaded the Windows Vista drivers from www.epson.co.uk (v6.1a). I've just tried the Vista 32bit drivers from the epson.com link you provided (v6.1aA) and got the same error message 'required sector not found in the INF'.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance but by Pc Host do you mean the computer all this is running on? Or is the host something within it?

It's a Packard Bell 2.20Ghz 2Gb Ram running Vista Home Premium 32bit, sorry but i don't know what other info is needed.

Cheer, Dan.

Vista was installed by you?

I'm seeing this issue with owners that upgraded to Vista. The fix is gruesome. A new install. If not, the issue is the machine's maker and their install of Vista.

This message is well known but my cure today isn't that nice. Tell a little more.
