Printer ink problem

I have a Brother Printer MFC-845cw. One cartilage went empty and when I replaced it the printer still shows empty. I bought another cartilage and same prolem. I have removed and inserted more than 25 times. How do I remedy this problem

The next stop is

The repair center. Yes you can try home remedies like cleaner the cartridge holder's contacts but these things do fail after a time and then it's off to the repair center where they replace the parts that failed.

But here's the next problem. Repair fees may exceed the cost of a new printer.

page 144 of the manual states: "...If you replaced an ink cartridge, the LCD
may ask you to verify that it was a brand
new one. (For example,
Did You Change Black) For each
new cartridge you installed, press
1 (Yes) to automatically reset the ink dot
counter for that color. If the ink cartridge
you installed is not a brand new one, be
sure to press 2 (No).
If you wait until the LCD shows
Near Empty and Ink Empty, the
machine will automatically reset the ink
dot counter.
