Printer Driver Download Problems

Jul 26, 2010 3:43AM PDT

I tried to post this question yesterday, but I cannot find it on the forum any place, so I am posting it again. I am sorry if this is the second time it appears. I bought a new printer and apparently I need to download a driver to make it compatible with Windows Vista. I have the file name but I cannot figure out how to download it. Every time I find some place to download the file it wants to download a file called download detective. I finally downloaded that file and installed it, but I don't really know what to do next. I am hoping you would have some ideas. The name of the file is kx_mb7.exe .

To give you a little more information on the printer we have is a Panasonic kx-mb781 and we have installed it on a computer running Windows Vista premium. Apparently it only comes with the drivers for up to Windows XP. I am trying to download the newer driver file and that is when I run into this problem. They do not have the computer attached to the Internet so the file will have to be downloaded and then brought to the computer. Hopefully you understand my predicament. I am hoping you will have some ideas. I am looking forward to your response.

Raymond

... in the 1st paragraph, you mentioned that you have installed it ? In th nd paragraph, you mentioned that you have to "bought it to the computr" ?... Anyway, what you usually do is this:
Disconnet the printer from the computer. Install the driver- [double click on the file and let the system do all the work.] Now connect the printer. Windows will reconize it and install it. However, you have to watch the monitor screen and follow instructions, if any.

Thank you for your suggestions. As I said in my original question the computer is not hooked up to the Internet so I cannot download the update file directly to the computer. So I am trying to download the file to another computer and then take it to the computer that needs the update. I tried contacting Panasonic directly and did not get a response. So I really have no idea what to do next. The only other option is to take the computer to the Internet, but that is very inconvenient. The computer basically is in constant use where it is now. I'm hoping somebody on here will have another way to do this.
Thank you write much for your help.

bringing it to the computer

(1) Go to the manufacturer's website and download (save) the driver directly to a USB thumb/memory stick. This would be the fastest way.
(2) Take the saved file to the computer and install, as explained in the previous replies.
(3) After all is correct, save the new driver onto a CD. That way, you'll always have the new driver on permanent media.

can't download the file

what you are saying to do is exactly what I want to do. The problem is you cannot download the file itself and then take it to the computer. from everything I can find the file has to be downloaded directly to the computer that needs to be updated. That is the reason I am writing here is to see is somebody has any idea how I can get the update file itself to take it to the computer.

as wb2001 has stated...

if you go to the link supplied; download the .exe program onto the computer you're using at the moment, then copy the .exe program onto a flash (thumb/ jump/ USB/ etc.) drive.
Then insert the flash drive into the computer that is currently connected to the printer, and execute the program from the flash drive. All drivers are located on the computer connected to the printer, the printer doesn't actually contain the files/ drivers/ programs (the exception being a firmware update).

thank you for clearing this up

I think now I see the problem. I must have the wrong file name. When I went to the Panasonic website the file name I came up with that I needed was kx_mb7.exe . My whole problem has been trying to get that file. I see the one you are directing me to will download and do what I want. I'm sorry about all this. Thank you for directing me to the correct file.

which one do I need
Aug 8, 2010 4:24AM PDT

I am really feeling stupid here, but I see there are four or five different choices of files. The reason I am trying to update is because my Microsoft programs don't print correctly. Could somebody tell me which file I would need? I really appreciate all the help you guys have been giving me. Thank you very much.

there are four choices
Aug 8, 2010 6:16AM PDT

when I click on the link that he offered me it takes me to a page with four different choices of files to download. They are
MFS78_121_ENG.exe
MFS78_121_ENG_update.exe
DEVMON78_114_ENG.exe
MFSCLEANER_ENG.exe

I am guessing it is the top one, but I am limited to how much I can download in a day and I hate to download a 47 MB file that isn't the right one.

download all 4

If all choices exceed your daily limit; install those that are under the 47MB, and download the rest another day

what you should download

factory driver MFS78_121_ENG.exe
install and check printer

update to driver MFS78_121_ENG_update.exe
install and check printer

device monitor DEVMON78_114_ENG.exe
this is monitoring program, not sure what it monitors.
