Print Screen ot working in Vista Home Premium

Jun 5, 2007 3:30AM PDT

Hello

Today I purchsed a new HP Pavilion DV2124 with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. Today when I tried using the print screen feature, unfortunatley it was unable to take the screenshot. My friend adviced me to look for an update patch but even after installing the new updates from microsoft it didn't help. Please help me out! If theres some problem with the Windows then what can be done? Is there any specific update patch for this problem(I think its a bug)? Please tell me the best solution available. All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

A workaround...
Jun 5, 2007 2:42PM PDT

I don't know how to fix the Print Screen key functionality, but I can offer a workaround. PrintScreen is a free program which enables you to set a specified hotkey, including Print Screen, to capture the current window, an area, or the entire screen, and save it as a file, copy it to the clipboard, and/or send it to the printer. It can be set to launch at boot to alleviate the inconvenience until a proper solution can be found.

Hope this helps,
John

If you can get a USB keyboard

Try that. If it works the Print Screen key on the laptop is not working, if it also does not work than the problem is with the operating system. Either way something is defective and should be returned under warranty.

Thanks for the help but I solved it myself. I didn't know that we need to press Fn for secondary functions. Now its working. Anyways thanks a lot for the suggestions.

I have a new, 5 days, laptop and love print screen which didn't work on it. I went through TWO hp chats and after many hoops was told that I had to do a system restore. That's after several days of getting it all set up.

Sure, I'm going to tell you which key it was

On my new HP laptop the keyboard has a fn key. I almost didn't find it because it is on the bottom row, second from the left.

It happened to me. My workaround.

The issue happens here and I can't guess why. I will not attempt to guess but will head straight to what's working for me.

"MY APP" will not allow a screen shot. Fix: Alt+Tab to another app and then press PrintScreen. Yes I get both apps and need to crop what I really wanted out but I'm done. Others may want a fix but I'm done while they call tech support.

Print Screen problem
Sep 29, 2009 12:10AM PDT

The Alt+PrntScrn is not working for me as well. Though fn+PrntScrn works, it copies every window that's open at the time, and if you close all the windows except the screen that you want to copy, fn+PrntScrn will copy the active window plus your desk top.

This is a bug, no work around yet

And how about PicPick ?

Isn't that a workaround?

Print screen "workaround"
Feb 18, 2010 12:02AM PST

Depressing the Function key (Fn) + Print screen (PrtSc) does copy all you see on screen. Depressing Function key (Fn)+ Alt + Print Screen(PrntSC) copies only the active window. I hope this helps.

fn+alt+prtsc still copies ALL, NOT just active window.

I've seen this.

I'm calling it a bug. Some but not all laptops have this bug. Be sure to tell the makers when you find it.
