I retried and found that I needed to put the memory back it at just the right angle and it snapped in and locked back down.
I went online and found the correct RAM for my model laptop. I had checked the HP instructions for changing out the RAM. I followed the instructions taking out the battery and disconnecting the power cord and also displacing static by touching the laptop and a metal object which was my lamp. Not knowing if I had to do it before touching each RAM clip I did it anyway.
The old memory popped outward as soon as I spread the little silver clips. I was careful to place the old RAM on the bubble wrap the new memory came in. I had a heck of a time putting the new memory in because there's limited space and the little clips had to be spread apart in order to seat the memory. Once that was done. I replaced the power cord and went to turn the laptop on. The light came on indicating it was getting power then I got a series of beeps but the screen didn't come one. I could hear the fan running.
I tried replacing the old RAM again but the same problem happened. When taking out the new RAM it didn't pop out like the old ones once the clips were opened so that made me wonder if I had them in properly. There's a notch in the RAM and a plastic piece to fit that spot on the laptop. They didn't meet all the way and I stupidly forgot to look at how it was seated in the first place. It didn't feel as though I could push the RAM in further.
I'd very much appreciate some input. I didn't think the changeout was beyond my capability but now I have no clue how to troubleshoot and fix.
