Presario 5838 Disaster!

Jan 10, 2004 11:28PM PST

I have just upgraded my Compaq Presario 5838 from the garbage of Win Me to the more reliable W2K. The problem is that I don't have the original CD's anymore and now I need the mobo software so that a number of drivers can be loaded into the OS. I have a two CD drives - LG CD-RW CED-8042B & LITEON CD-ROM LTN323 - but only the LITEON is being recognized by the OS. They used to be both recognized by ME, but not anymore. Also, all the USB ports are not being picked up by the OS. only the ones in the back can read. The ones on the front are not. Please guys, I need your help in this one. Maybe you can point me out to the right direction. Thanks.!

MoBo: Compaq 0598h A2
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies Ltd. 4.0 09/27/1999
System Model: Compaq PC x2.0
Bus adapter: Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB universal host C
Primary IDE controller(dual fifo)
secondary controller(dual fifo)

Are you willing to experiment?

Since it's an AMD on some VIA chipset, I'd try the Via Hyperion 4in1 drivers. You can find them with Google.

That may be as good as it gets.
