Preliminary report - Egg Hill

May 14, 2006 11:31PM PDT

Well, we haven't actually gone inside yet, but have started the investigation outside. Did some scans of the area, thermal, video, magnetic fields, etc. Lots of magnetic fields, which isn't surprising from examining the ground with soil samples and we have a geologist examining all the rocks in the area. The place is littered with lodestones. Some of them are quite large, like 13 inches in diameter. The case will continue today, in fact I have to get ready soon, it's 928am where I am and they're picking me up at 1030. When the investigation is concluded, pictures will be posted online. I'm now asking if they'll let me put up some of the video, they said wait and see...I so hope.....

More to follow tomorrow.

Update - okay it's a day late
May 16, 2006 8:24PM PDT

Nothing strange has occurred so far. The alleged goats on the wall look more like lambs to me, which isn't surprising in a church. If I turn my head sideways and squint real hard, the diagrams on the ceiling might be pentagrams, otherwise it's just some interesting lattice work. The magnetic fields are giving the equipment some trouble, but otherwise everything is quiet and peaceful. No ghosts, boogymen, etc. have bothered with us at all.

Don't squint too much

you might miss something important!!

Give it time and have an O P E N M I N D

I can't wait until you tell us about your first real encounter. Continue with this line of work for very long and it's bound to happen. Hopefully it won't be one of those kind that makes you pee your pants. Grin

Take care and have fun, Steven,

We have an anomaly
May 17, 2006 2:02AM PDT

actually 73 of them. I mentioned the magnetic fields, there are 1897 of them. We have found sources for 1824 of them. For 73 there is no source yet found. We had an interesting thing happen early this morning, some ground fog that took on some odd shapes in places, 73 odd places. Derek, our physicist says that he has often encountered this effect before, where a magnetic field will interact with the ground fog to produce this. Has something to do with fog; like clouds, having static electricity in them or something - I didn't actually understand his explanation but I'm guessing it relates to how thunder is produced. Perhaps one of the scientists here could explain it. Anyway, he said this is the first time he has encountered this effect with magnetic fields that don't appear to have a source. Though he has said that they've encountered the lack of source before. Actually, on all of the unsolved/unexplainable cases they've had, this was one of the unresolved issues. Accounts for about 1% of the cases but I still find it interesting.

I am trying to keep an open mind, and it is early in this line of work to make any sort of judgements. And I must admit that as much as I don't believe in ghosts, I'm hoping for evidence to prove myself wrong. I love mysteries, part of what attracted me to investigation years ago, and the best mysteries are the ones I can't solve.

is that someone is actually prepared to pay you for all this....

Thank you for the snide comment Mr. Moderator

Do you have anything useful to contribute to this thread?

Right now this land and building are doing no one any good, not even generating tax revenue because it is church-owned.

The building is both a safety hazard due to disrepair and a fire hazard.

If the stigma can be removed it can be sold, doing the owner UCC some good as well as the buyer for whatever purpose it is used for.

So Jonah, if it were up to you, how would you remove the stigma and/or make this site useful again?

bulldoze the place

that way a building that is (according to you) both a safety hazard due to disrepair and a fire hazard, will no longer be a potential death trap for you or any other idiot that goes ghost hunting...

and there is nothing snide about my former post, it expresses my feelings, and they are "someone is stupid enough to pay you for what you're doing"...

I tend to agree, but...

being derogatory toward my job and me for having it, and that your sole purpose for posting that was to take a shot at someone you don't like. Your whole post was a derogatory statement, rather than a build on the conversation.

I don't do that to you, I have a little more courtesy toward my fellow speakeasy members, even when I disagree with them or what they happen to be doing.

On the topic, we have safety equipment, teenagers who break in do not. If it were an adult I say they get what they deserve if they're breaking the law. I usually don't apply the same to kids.

Do you think that removing the building will remove the stigma? I don't.

i said quite clearly...."someone is stupid enough to pay you for what you're doing"

as to this --> Sounds to me as if you are and were

If I made the same comment about your line of work, you would not be offended?

How about if I said I hope Cnet isn't paying you for the job you do as moderator?

I believe you would be offended.

you or any other idiot that goes ghost hunting...

If I said the same to you, you would not take that as a slight?

Perhaps I misunderstood part of the linked message below:

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6130-0.html?forumID=50&threadID=140989&messageID=1581972

Either way, I think the simplest solution is for this to be my last communication to you, and to refrain from opening any more of your posts.

Might be overreacting?

Jonah's reply didn't seem snide to me. I have to confess my first thought was, "Someone would pay money for that?" and my second was, "How can I get in on this ?"

And yeah, I think bulldozing and building over the place would get rid of whatever stigma there is. People have short memories.

Some people have short memories

Others have long ones. Two examples I would give are Pennhurst which has been closed and the land up for sale for over 2 decades, but the stigma remains, and no one's buying. Terrible shame really, as it is basically a ready built town, complete with its own power plant. The state even tried selling it for a dollar - no one bought it.

Next is the Henryville house, or rather the site it formerly stood on. It was demolished in 2003 and the land has been up for sale since.

rumor has it both places are haunted, not that I believe that, but some people do.

As regards to Jonah, going back over the few posts I've had from him, he seems hostile at every turn, though I could be wrong. Better for me to just live and let live, and not contact him any further. That way I won't annoy him, and without opening any of his posts, he won't annoy me.

Break Egg Hill. England of course, where they have lots of weird place names and street names.

Best of luck with your investigations, I'm curious to hear the results. I suspect a lot of the odd places and ghost ridden houses are connected to Geophysical anomalies of one sort or another. The brain is subject to Magnetic interference, and that could account for a lot.

Thanks for the update.

Two events I can't explain
May 18, 2006 8:11AM PDT

The house in which we lived for over 30 years was built in 1924 by an engineer for the phone company. His wife was a Christian Science Healer and Reader, as well as an artist. Neighbors described them as a sweet, loving couple. We were the 3rd owners.

One morning not long after we bought the house, at breakfast my husband and our daughter (then a teen) were unusually quiet. Finally my husband said that something strange had happened the night before. My daughter perked up, and said, "To you, too?" My husband said he had awakened at about 2:00 AM, and saw a figure standing at the foot of the bed. Daughter said she had seen the same thing at about the same time.

Then I told them both to leave the room, then return one at a time to describe the figure. To make a long story short, they described the same figure. An elderly lady with a shawl on her shoulders, just looking at them and saying nothing. neither were afraid. Just turned over and went back to sleep.

Later the neighbors that knew her were asked to describe her. Their descriptions fit the figure.

At the time we thought, well, maybe she just stopped by to see who was in "her" house. It never happened again.

One more.

My mother died in the hospital/ At the time that she died the alarm went off in her house. There were no signs of attempted entry.... neighbors and my husband were there immedialtely (she lived just a few houses away.)
