Prefetch folder

I was told that if I empty the Prefetch folder my computer would start faster, if there any harm in doing this? Thanks again

Such has been noted at some sites, but I never found it to pay off. If your machine is working proper, try it.

Its perfectly save to remove them. I do it quite often
1->Start/Run/Prefetch
2->Press Ctrl-A to Highlight all the shortcuts
3->Delete them

Hope this helps

I also delete this every so often but I was told here that it might not be a good idea to delete the one file under prefetch called Layout. Its icon is a notepad look with what looks like a gear on it. Do you delete this also and if so does it recreate it? Thanks sly

No harm, but no apparent help..

Might try this:

Tiny download, about 30K, and works just as it says. I use it mainly as a cleanup tool, along with MRU Blaster, before defragging.
I really see no difference after I clear things, but just like to clear out extra stuff before defragging.
