Question

Pre-wired surround sound, how to identify the wires?

Sep 6, 2015 5:35PM PDT

We have a home built in 2012, prewired for surround sound. I found the main box underneath the TV and I removed the ceiling plates BUT each location has tons of wires running through. I cannot find start/ ending locations for any of the wires, it looks like a continuous loop. I'm sure it's not but it looks like that. Please help! Need advice/ tips on locating and identifying the right wires to each speaker location. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b278/DESTYNYNG/Mobile%20Uploads/image.jpg

My thought is that you call the person that wired it to help finish the job.

I didn't duplicate prior answers.

I hate to be in your shoes.

Can you detect which cable is which when you pull on it at the start? The problem with these cables are that they ALL start and END at the same place, right? Problem can be solve but at what cost? I have no idea. It certain would be nice to have a friend that knows electronic at this point.

I also want to say these installer are idiot.

This can be done but you will still need a friend with electronic knowledge. Use signal tracing working backward. Cut ONE cable at the box then trace it back to the source (where all the connections will be make). Good luck and hope it doesn't cost too much.
