Pre-Newbie needs help choosing a GPS for geochaching

Oct 16, 2009 12:36PM PDT

I hope it's okay to post this here as it seemed the best forum for the subject matter...

I'm thinking of getting into geocaching, and wonder if anyone out there is involved in it, and can maybe steer me in the direction of a good solid GPS that won't totally break the bank.

I need something that will work well far into the bush, with sometimes heavy cover, as I hope to work my way up to more and more difficult and distant cache searches.

I would be willing to spend $350-$400, tops.

If anyone has an opinion, I'd surely appreciate hearing it.

Thanks in advance!

I think Magellan

I think Magellan has some hiking and hunting oriented GPS devices, which you'd have to assume have been "ruggedized" for use off the beaten trail. Garmin and TomTom probably have something similar if you check their website. Also check some sporting goods stores in your area.

Those are excellent suggestions, thank you. It's all pretty overwhelming, and I'd like to get one that will do the job first time around! I appreciate you sharing your opinion!
