pps extension

Feb 20, 2009 7:58AM PST

How do I open emails with a pps extension? My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Professional version 2002, service pack 3. My computer is a HP L1906, I use Internet Explorer 7. Frequently I get emails with the pps extension and it says I do not have the proper program to open them. What do I do to get the proper program?

You say I can download a free viewer. How do I do this and where do I go to do it?

For clarification ... I'd refer to PPS as PowerPoint Show

I clicked the link and followed the instructions to download the power point viewer. It is listed now in the currently installed programs. When I try to open the email, I still get the message, This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel. I went to the folder options, but then I don't know what to do. Please help.

Try this.

I assume this pps file is an "attachment" to the email, not the email itself.

Try saving the attachment to your hard disk. The Desktop is a suitable, temporary, storage area. Right click the attachment and select "Save as", navigate to your Desktop and save it.

Then from your Desktop you can right click that pps file so you can virus check it, and if it is virus free, you should be able to double click the file to run it in your new PPS viewer.

I would never run or open an attachment from an email. No matter who has sent it, relative or friend, it needs to be checked for malware first, and that is why saving it to the Desktop first is the better idea. You can then check it for viruses and if it is infected, just deleted.

If double clicking still doesn't work ...

an easy way out is to run the viewer and use File>Open to open the attachment you save to your hard drive.

Angiegay, Download the "PPSFix.zip" file and save it to your hard drive. Unzip the file by double left clicking it, then double left click the .exe file to open it. When it's open select "PowerPoint Viewer 2007" and also select "PPS [PowerPoint Slide Show]" then click the "Fix" button. You will now be able to open .pps files directly from your e-mail.

Here's the link again.
