about the "PPC convertor for Rome" as a Google search only turns up this post.

What is it?
What is it supposed to do?
Where is it available?
etc.

Rome originally came as Intel ONLY .

Rome Total War is Intel only out of the box ,

About a year ago I downloaded a updater for it from The Apple site .
( I am going to buy the game THIS week )

It is supposed to allow G5 PPC users with OS 10.5.8 to play the game .
and is available at :- http://www.feralinteractive.com/?game=rometw&subsection=sysreqs

I was wondering if anybody had tried it and if they got it going on a G5 PPC .

Not quite correct.

"Rome: Total War is a Universal Application, designed for Intel and PPC processors", so says the web page you provided the link for.

The 1.1 patch, it is not a PPC convertor, just brings the game from v1.0 to v1.1 which I assume adds code that makes the game Universal Binary instead of just Intel.

As it's free, why not download it and try it?

Looks like I have come full circle :)

Thank you for your reply mrmacfix ,
I would argue that the 1.1 Patch is a convertor .
Because it converts (or modifies or adds support for PPC) 1.0 which is Intel ONLY to 1.1 which is Intel + PPC .

Okay I may have used the wrong term in "convertor" .
the dictionary defines a convertor as :-

convertor - a device for changing one substance or form or state into another

Bessemer converter - a refractory-lined furnace used to convert pig iron into steel by the Bessemer process
catalytic converter - a converter that uses a platinum-iridium catalyst to oxidize pollutants and carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and water; an antipollution device on an automotive exhaust system

data converter - converter for changing information from one code to another

device - an instrumentality invented for a particular purpose; "the device is small enough to wear on your wrist"; "a device intended to conserve water"
electrical converter - converter that converts alternating current into direct current or vice versa
electronic converter - (telecommunication) converter for converting a signal from one frequency to another
torque converter - converter for transmitting and amplifying torque (especially by hydraulic means)

I have NOT brought the game yet , I am going to get this week ,
so I thought I would be nice to try and see if anyone had tried the " Patch " .
and see if they got it going .

Part of my reason for opening this thread was , when ever I look a around at places to buy Rome ,
they ALWAYS say " Intel ONLY " which is confusing .

It doesn't seem to be a well known Patch .
I think you have a list of games on your site which states that it is " Intel only " .

So getting back to my Question :-

Has everyone out there tried the " Patch "
and had success with it ????

After I buy the game I will publish the results here for others to see Happy

Rome and the G5 PPC
Mar 11, 2012 5:13AM PDT

Hello again everybody .
I have brought Rome Total War ,
I did not buy it in a " boxed version " , which made things a lot easier .
My advise to any one who has a G5 PPC is to buy it as a Digital download .
File size is about 3.8 gig , and on ADSL 2+ it takes about 3.5 hours to download .
I also found that it was cheaper to buy it that way too Happy
It seems to be running FINE on my 1.8 dual G5 ,
with a 128 meg radeon video card ,
4 gig of Ram(8 ram slots) .
Very smooth Grin
The DL is version 1.2 , so no updating required Happy
For those interested in buying Rome Total War , this is where I got it from
