That you have a few megabytes to spare. Convert the sound file to a .WAV (I used AUDACITY) and then it will be very compatible with a lot more machines and without the issue you noted.
-> It may be too late for you to turn off the protect content switch in WMP.
In closing, I suggest you learn to do without WMP.

1st computer: Win Xp (home), PowerPoint 2003, WMP ver 9
2nd computer: Win '98, PowerPoint 1997, WMP ver 9
I made a beautiful PowerPoint slide show for my brothers' 65th birthday with the perfect background song.
I got the song from a legal download site and inserted it from the menu in PP. I ran the slideshow on my computer and it was perfect, so I burned the CD
to give it to him using the 'package to CD' feature in PP. (This feature ensures that CD will burn with all linked files & PP viewer, and will play on
any computer Win '98 and up.)
Problem:
The song wouldn't play on my Win 98 computer because, I think there was a licensing issue, not being the original computer the song was downloaded to, so of course it won't play on my brothers computer. I contacted the site I downloaded song from (Puretracks.com)and they said that PP burned it as a data file so it couldn't be shared and must be burned as an audio file. I can't see anywhere in PP where that can be controlled/changed. It is a .wav file a
nd plays in Windows Media Player which PP requires.
All my other animations play, it's just this downloaded song from file that is giving me trouble.
Has anyone made a slideshow, inserted a song, from file, and had it play on
another computer successfully?
Any idea what I should be doing different here?
sorry my post was so long
