PowerPoint & Hyperlinks

I have created a graphic-intensive chart on a PP slide and I need to hyperlink some text (boxes) to a .doc. I have created hyperlinks on the text as well as Action Buttons to the side. Even though I have set the Action Item to be a click I still can't get the links to work. Do I need to press CTRL & ALT or something (I have tried this, to no avail)?
