1. Uninstall and reinstall Office 97.
2. Install Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org and open it with their compatible (and free) software.
3. Copy the last known good copy from your backup. We all make backups...
In closing, Office 97 has glitches on XP. It may work, but you can't count on it. No cures or patches are planned.

We run Windows XP upgrade with Microsoft Office 2000 although our Powerpoint is a 97 version. We have never had any problems using it despite the version year. Our daughter created a Powerpoint presentation with no problems until she added a new slide the other day. When she tried to open the presentation later that day she got an error message that said:
Powerpoint can't open the type of file represented by Rotary Presentation
She doesn't know of anything she did differently when she saved the presentation and we still cannot open it. The same message appears. Does anyone know of a way to salvage this project?
