Powerbook G4 or XPS Gen2/inspiron 9300, opinions?

Feb 26, 2005 1:34AM PST

I need a computer to replace my 5 year old Dell desktop. I was looking for something in the low to mid $2000 price range. If i go with the powerbook it would be the 15 inch.
I'm mainly getting a new computer in order to do some video and digital picture editing. I play some computer games but not very much. And the rest of the time it would be used for word processing, email and surfing the web.

I suppose the inspiron 9300 will be just nice for you if you are not going for gaming. The specs are good and suitable for video and digital editing.

Is the insprion 9300 still coming out. Looking at the supposed specs for the 9300 there isn't much difference between that and the XPS Gen2. I read on another message board that the 9300 is only being released overseas and not in the Us. I would definitely go with the XPS if not for it's looks, it looks too industrial for me. I would like something sleek like the powerbooks or even the 9200/9300 design.
If only apple will release an update on the powerbook G4 processor with faster FSB or even with the G5 chipSad

7300 is the one

If you want to do even light gaming with pc software you need to stick with a pc. So that leaves out the Powerbook. As your gaming needs are not very big, the XPS Gen 2 is overkill. The 9300 with even the 128 meg X300 video option would be fine, unless any of your programs demand a more powerful video card (in which case choose the 256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 6800). Choose the 60meg 7200 rpm HD and a higher speed processor (750 or 760) rather than the 730 or 740. You will want as much ram as you can afford within your budget.
