Power conservation settings with Ubuntu?

May 17, 2007 4:16AM PDT

I have a dual boot Vista/Ubuntu setup on a Toshiba A135 notebook computer. Part of my motivation for Ubuntu was to have a lighter system than Vista available that would hopefully conserve the battery better. It hasn't turned out that way so far. The battery life is about the same as with the "balanced" setting in Vista. Are there additional power settings available with Ubuntu other than the ones on the pulldown menu, or would this be a command line adventure suitable only for advanced users?
