Question

Possible to UPLINK a router to my ISP via wireless?

Aug 20, 2016 4:53PM PDT

My ISP offers free wireless access to their network in the shopping district of my town if you are a customer if theirs (I have a cable modem and router in my home). But that is in my home.

The question I have is (i'll try to explain the best I can). I have a business in the shopping district of my town. I would like to be able to connect a PC (NO WIRELESS CARD) via ethernet, AND a security DVR (NO WIRELESS) via ethernet. The only way I can think to do this is have a Router at my business that I can plug in, via ethernet, both my PC and my security DVR. I need a router that instead of having a Internet Port or Uplink Port, has the ability of having that uplink to my ISP via wireless.

Basically, I need to connect 2 non-wireless devices to a wireless network through a router that has NO Internet or Uplink Port.

Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

Can you connect to their system with a wifi equipped PC or phone.

While there are such things as WiFi clients that use WiFi and then connect via Ethernet, I run this first test. If you don't understand this test, then you need a tech to test and set it up for you.

The following is something I do that may give you some ideals. I run linux on my computers and tried using a 600n wifi adapter I already had. But it was not compatible. The wireless router is located a couple of rooms away and I did not want to run a wire from it. Instead of fighting linux and trying to find an adapter that worked, I purchased a wifi n600 extender that received the wifi signal and ran a wire from it to the desktop. worked great.
