Question

possible salvage mission ??

Apr 3, 2015 8:24PM PDT

I have an Acer aspire-5741G with broken screen hinges (screen dead),
I also have an Acer aspire 5920 which always starts up on BSOD (can't restore)

Is there a way I can salvage the Windows 7 from my 5741G and fuse it into the frame/skeleton of the 5920?

Is all the equipment such as Esd wrist strap & anti-static mat really necessary ?

Update: And/or also integrate the remaining removable hardware into the Aspire 5920 ??

Answer
Unlikely...

due to OEM restrictions. Why not ask for help on the bsod? You could always try a Linux distro on it.

It's a little more complicated

Original OS was Vista on the 5920, then a cousin corrupted everything in there

Have you tried safe mode on the 5920?

Tell us more about what you've tried to get this running. Do you have the restore media or a backup?
What is the error message with this bsod.

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

I've tried most of the options at the Launch startup Repair screen,
No restore backup disks came with both the laptops.
Also did F8 to reach Safe-mode selection, but after clicking each Safemode,
bSOD comes up with bad_system_config_info

I'd run a live Linux dvd/usb distro...

to rule out any hardware problems. If this works ok it might be time to order the restore media.

Thanks for taking to time to be in here with me and replying!
I haven't tried that, but my cousin installed Win7 he bought from a marketplace prior to said issue; would that specific link still work? (I'm still in the middle of reading it)
I really don't care if my 5920 loses it's Win7 and goes back to factory Vista, in fact I prefer that! Grin Just wanted to respond to you that I'm still here and would love other people's POVs if they are reading this, don't be hesitant to contribute knowledge!

Just to clarify...

the 5920 was originally Vista and your cousin tried to install 7? If so, the Vista startup repair disc is unlikely to work. Be aware that a startup disc does NOT reinstall Vista, it's just a repair tool.
However, if Vista is still on the machine a startup disc might get it to boot.Did it ever boot after the attempted install of 7?

Correct.

Yes, 7 worked for a few months, then started getting real laggy. Now here I am after leaving the 5920 in limbo for a couple years because it wouldn't start :\

You could try this.

is a free OS that you download. It comes as an iso file and needs to be burned to disc using free software. You do not need to install it to your pc it runs off the disc or usb. there are many versions but Linux Mint is a good one.

If Linux runs fine on your machine it will rule out hardware problems.
