important than a hand out.

I wonder if anyone has analyzed giving out the microloans to mostly women. I remember reading that empowering women in poor countries is the most important thing to do to raise the standard of living in that country.

That was used to explain why so many Muslim countries are so poor because the girls and women are not allowed to participate in the economy of the country. They are just viewed as property.

It's responsibility. You are more responsible if someone loans you something and you have to pay it back. There is no incentive to be responsible if something is given and then their debt gets forgiven (time after time after time)
