Since it varies a little by mobo and bios perhaps something here may fit.

My PC hasnt run right since I installed new mother, CPU, Graphics card, and power (550). I think its a CMOS problem as I get a CMOS power error msg when I boot, and my date and time wont stay set. I put a new CMOS battery in.
The problem I have is that my PC only boots some of the time, and only once per day. If I try to restart in install things then the screen and keyboard get no power and no beeps. Very frustrating as I havent been able to use it in 3 months.
My CMOS has 3 pins, and 3 holes on the gate thingy. when I got the motherboard it was sitting on all 3 pins, should it stay there? When I do a CMOS reset, should the battery be out when I move the CMOS gate over? Do I need to boot up to reset the CMOS or is just moving it over enough?
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
