Portable tetrabite hard disk failure

Mar 13, 2009 10:02PM PDT

My son has backed up all his "stuff" to a portable tetrabite hard disk(FAT32). It has worked O.K. for three months or so. But now he has no access to his info. He can see it in my computer(vista)as one huge file but no access. thus far he has tried software and has had the drive physically removed and plugged in to a P.C. directly. With no success. I believe he never switched it off. Does this mean the drive is fried and unusable and the data also?
