Portable Notebook Surge Protectors: Do they make those?

Mar 13, 2005 2:07AM PST

Does anyone have any recommendations for a portable notebook surge protector? Or do I have to buy those giant multisocket bars?

Thanks.

Notebooks "sorta" have those.

That power supply and battery circuits provide more protection than your common desktop. You could add a simple one outlet surge suppressor you see from Radio Shack, but my outlook on this is such is not required.

Here's reason 2. Almost all laptops I see have a "free voltage" or universal AC input capability. You didn't tell what part of the world you are in, but for the US it's 110 VAC and that power brick is likely marked for 100 to 240 VAC operation. Almost all the devices around you will be burning out if plugged into 240 VAC, but your laptop power brick is good to go.

Hope this helps,

Bob

so that adapter is like a surge protector?

Well, that is nice to know.

I'm in Canada and I have a Fujitsu s6231. My only reason for needing a surge protector is that the building I work at is going under some intense renovations right now.

It's "sorta"like one.

It is not a true surge protector, but since it will not be bothered with 240 VAC supplies while your lightbulbs and more around you are burning out... you would think this would be enough?
