Portable Media Hard Drive + DVR?????

Dec 27, 2009 11:33PM PST

I kind of joined this sites forum because I need some help finding an item like this but of good quality. I've noticed that there are some hard drive enclosures that are made for media. IOGear seems to make one but it's overpriced IMO and it's limited to what it can play. Recently I found this:

http://eincai.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=5222543

It's a PORTABLE hard drive enclosure, for media, AND it's supposedly a DVR. Now, in my opinion, this is GREAT. It's what I've wanted and what I didn't even know existed. The thing is, it's a type of "no name" product. I haven't read anybody else that makes one (No Western Digital, Sony, etc.) So I'm kind of iffy on getting this one. Now, the biggest thing for me is I want it to be PORTABLE. Something I can carry with me. Anything else I've found is big, usually like the size of a VCR. While I can appreciate that the bigger players might be of better quality I don't like that they are so big. So does anyone have any ideas of where to find such a product? I might buy this one, but before I do can anyone point one out that has the same qualities, but is as small as the one I found in the link?

At 90 bucks it is not overpriced.

I think that's a great product at a good price.

90 isn't bad, BUT....

It does seem good for that price, but what worries me is that it's really a No Brand type of product and I wonder how it will display the video on tv, the quality of the vids it shows and records. That kind of stuff.

Such things are no brands today.

When you see such things the names can't produce it for many reasons I won't go into here. If you must stick to names then you go to BB, wailmart, etc.

So....

So you think it could still be a good quality product even though it's not produced by any brand name companies?

I'm going out on a limb.

My jobs over the years have been with big defense electronics firms and small engineering firms and now back to middle size companies.

Without exception each one strove to deliver quality for the price.

A big company does not mean there is quality. Examples are abundant (GM!)

The only big problem I have with such devices is some think they should play content like our PC can. Look in the Samsung forum for complaints about MKV, AVI, D3U and other formats along with "Hey why don't you support Atonian language subtitles in RMZ encoding?!"

Hopefully you get my point about that.
