portable hard drive to samsung full hd smart tv

Need help. I have just bought 3 weeks ago a brand new samsung Full hd tv my children have recorded 70 odd kids shows all direct from the tv.via a portable harddrive via the usb But the tv has now backlighted which basicly meens i gave it back to harvey norman and they have replaced it with another new one.now the kids cannot view the 70 odd recordinding. There their but have a cross on the image. Is there any way to view the shows now.

Time to ask Samsung but the last time this happened.

The shows are LOCKED FOREVER to the exact TV the recording was done with.

This is BY DESIGN (emphasis mine.) If you want portable content you must not use a Samsung TV (all makes seem to do this) to record with.

Ie. Is there a way of recording live tv that all we do i woulnt know how to down load a movie over the internet then watch it . I am just a simple person.
Is their a way coz some times the children want to watch something they have recorded in the playroom telly but we havent known a way to do so if their is one. Thx
Maybe i need to go back to useing a video stablizer and tape it on my old vhs tapes.

The why is all about content protection. The movie and other industries grudging allowed HD recording but only if the content was locked to the recorder. If it wasn't then the content could be shared across the world. So this was the compromise solution.
